# Spring Semester 08: Detained

**Resource person:** GuruSetu - An animated series for teachers in Indian higher education

## Summary

Kabir returns from caring for his father to find his name on an attendance list, with a deadline the next day. Kamala helps him document the emergency and arrange manageable catch-up work. Nikhil needs fee and housing support without unwanted family contact. The committee then shifts from last-minute exceptions to early, private warnings that leave a route back.

Send it early and privately, with the student’s situation, the deadline, a named contact and a realistic way to recover. Students may know the threshold without knowing their current position, how to request help or when an appeal closes. Specify essential learning and manageable tasks, with clear timing, rather than expecting an overwhelming amount of make-up work.

Family circumstances can be part of the difficulty; discuss consent, safety and applicable duties before involving relatives. Read the actual order and its scope; a ruling about law colleges is not automatically a rule for every institution.

In practice: Send an early attendance message that includes a way back, and check how your course handles caring responsibilities and emergencies.
