# Spring Semester 02: Just a Tradition

**Resource person:** GuruSetu - An animated series for teachers in Indian higher education

## Summary

An anonymous slip leads Tanvi to Aman, who is being summoned for late-night introductions. He wants the harassment to stop and still needs to live safely in the hostel. Arjun and Prakash learn that acting decisively requires a fair process and protection from retaliation. Kabir’s apology also makes room for the bystander who was afraid to speak.

Bullying, coercion and exclusion can harm students even when there is no physical assault; calling something tradition does not excuse it. Listen to what happened, thank the student for telling you, and ask about their immediate safety and needs. It can reveal who complained and leave that student exposed to retaliation after the responding teacher has gone.

Students need named contacts, clear procedures, prompt action and an explanation of confidentiality and its limits. Report what you observed through a safe channel and check on the affected student without demanding that they forgive you.

In practice: Read the campus definition of ragging aloud and explain the reporting route, including how retaliation is addressed.
