# Spring Semester 02: Just a Tradition: Highlights

**Resource person:** GuruSetu - An animated series for teachers in Indian higher education

1. Bullying, coercion and exclusion can harm students even when there is no physical assault; calling something tradition does not excuse it.
2. Listen to what happened, thank the student for telling you, and ask about their immediate safety and needs.
3. It can reveal who complained and leave that student exposed to retaliation after the responding teacher has gone.
4. Students need named contacts, clear procedures, prompt action and an explanation of confidentiality and its limits.
5. Report what you observed through a safe channel and check on the affected student without demanding that they forgive you.
