# Six Thinking Hats: Highlights

**Resource person:** Prof. Sivakumar M. Srinivasan, Mr. Shiva Subramaniam and Ms. Mrinalini - IIT Madras professor, professional facilitator and coach, and innovation entrepreneur collaborating on structured thinking practice

1. Use the hats as temporary modes of attention available to everyone.
2. Keep the whole group on one hat before changing perspective together.
3. White checks facts and gaps. Yellow looks for value. Black checks cautions and constraints.
4. Red records an immediate feeling or intuition as a distinct input.
5. Green develops alternatives, including responses to risks found under black.
6. Blue sets the question, sequence, time, transitions, and summary.
7. Practise one hat first. In a full sequence, park off-hat comments for the appropriate stage.
8. The method broadens the discussion and reduces argument. Participants remain responsible for judging the conclusion.
