# Reading the NEP 06: Three Years, Four Years and a Bank of Credits

**Resource person:** GuruSetu - An animated series for teachers in Indian higher education

## Summary

A student leaving after two years asks what she can take with her and whether she can return. The film reads exit awards, degree lengths, research options and the Academic Bank of Credits together. It also distinguishes an account holding credits from evidence that those credits have been transferred. Advising requires the actual university ordinance and the student’s own complete record.

It proposes a certificate after one year, a diploma after two and a bachelor’s degree after three, within the relevant implemented structure. It records eligible credits digitally; recognition, transfer and award of a qualification remain subject to applicable rules. The existence of accounts or stored records does not show how many students successfully moved credits or returned to study.

Check the award requirements, return deadline, recognition of completed work and the student’s recorded credits under their university’s ordinance. A research qualification requires appropriate supervision, facilities and academic arrangements, not simply an extra year in the timetable.

In practice: Check one course’s credit-to-hours calculation and make a short advising checklist for exit, re-entry and fourth-year requirements.
